Waney Lap: The Budget-Friendly Favourite

Waney Lap (or ‘Overlap’) panels are made from thin, horizontal timber slats that overlap each other.

• Best for: Homeowners on a budget or those with very large perimeters to cover.
• The Pros: It’s the most cost-effective way to get instant privacy.
• The Cons: Being lighter, they are more susceptible to high winds. If your garden is in an exposed area near the A414, you might find these panels need replacing sooner than others.

Closeboard: The Heavy-Duty Hero

Closeboard (or ‘Featheredge’) panels are built from thick, vertical overlapping boards.

• Best for: Long-term durability, security, and gardens with kids or pets.
• The Pros: These are much stronger and heavier than Waney Lap. They offer superior privacy and are far more likely to survive a British winter without rattling or breaking.
• The Cons: A higher initial investment than Waney Lap, but they save you money over time because they last significantly longer.

The 414 Fencing Verdict
